There were hugs, tears and handshakes at a Rancho Santa Margarita fire station Monday when a rookie Orange County 9-1-1 dispatcher met the man he helped save.
On July 1, Chris Carvalho answered a 9-1-1 call and heard: "Yeah, my husband just had a heart attack. He collapsed on the floor and he’s turning red and purple. Please come!”
Carvalho, who had only been at the console for three months, proceeded to direct Sharon Kielty to perform CPR reminding her that help was on the way, KTLA reported.
“Keep going. You’re acting as his pulse right now. Just remember that, so just keep going,” Carvalho told her.
And she did just that.
Sharon and her husband Steve were all smiles when they met him and one of the firefighters who responded that day.
Carvalho said that he was glad to meet the couple because dispatchers don’t often get to interact with the people they’re working to help.
“Just that moral support and his voice helping me through this, I mean, you calmed me down so much and I wasn’t alone in the scariest moment of my life."
